Who we are

BAOBAB Travel is an independent and privately owned company founded by Louise de Waal 2002 and Paul Giess joint her a couple of years later. Today Louise and Paul are still involved in the day to day operation of the business. With their combined knowledge of the African tourism industry, and a passion for responsible travel and sustainable tourism, they have established and built partnerships with local tour operators and establishments who share their sustainable tourism philosophy and passion.

Our team visits and approves all accommodation, activities and operators in the destinations we promote. This enables us to give you not only expert advice but also personal view on the suitability of an itinerary, activities and properties for your particular circumstances, whether this is a honeymoon or a family holiday, just ask our team below.

	Founder / Travel Consultant Louise has a background in environmental science with a PhD in environmental management and years of teaching experience at various UK universities. Although she lost her love of academia she has never lost her love for environmental issues and sustainability. She has previously worked in Tanzania on a coral reef conservation project and has always had a passion for travelling and meeting new people and cultures. She travelled extensively across the globe and of course Africa in great detail researching the destinations we offer. Her passion for responsible travel and expertise of Africa shows in her dealings with clients and designing unique itineraries.
	Travel Consultant Paul also has an academic background in environmental science with a PhD from Imperial College in London and many years as a lecturer in environmental science and as an academic business development manager. This has included both organising and leading group trips for student groups in Eastern Europe, USA and destinations in Africa. Paul too has travelled extensively across the African continent and Jordan specifically searching out sustainable tourism initiatives to include in our portfolio. He shares a passion for tourism as a means to benefit local communities and will enthusiastically help you prepare your ideal itinerary.
	Bookings Manager Chhaya has many years of experience working in mainstream travel & tourism. Although her knowledge of the BAOBAB destinations portfolio is superb, her main role is as our bookings manager. She has the vital job of making sure that all the arrangements you confirm with us are all correctly booked. Hence most of your dealings with Chhaya will be once you have booked a BAOBAB trip.
	Financial Manager Jane is our financial manager. After working for many years at a large financial institution she realised that she could help businesses better from the inside and try to help them create robust systems to weather all financial climates. She now keeps BAOBAB on the straight and narrow.
