Island Bush Camp
Island Bush Camp is an authentic safari bush camp set in the cool shade of 100 year old Mahogany trees on the banks of the Luangwa River. It is located in a more remote part of the park, in the eastern Luangwa valley and behind the Muchinga escarpment. It is not only in an incredibly beautiful part of the park, but offers complete solitude and the chance to explore the bush on foot through the woodlands and open plains. Guided by some of the valley’s very best guides and escorted by an armed wildlife scout ensuring your safety.
Although the main activity at the bush camp is walking safaris, a safari vehicle is used to get into a variety of walking areas or return to camp after dark to discover some of the nocturnal wildlife in the area.
Island Bush Camp has just 5 bush chalets tastefully decorated in a simple bush chic style, open to the front with stunning views over the river and allowing the sounds of the bush to drift through. Each chalet is built out of natural materials and sits on a wooden platform high off the ground. The beds are protected by large walk-in mossie nets and each chalet has an open en-suite bathroom with bucket shower, filled twice a day with steamy water, running water and flush toilets.
The bush kitchen provides fantastic meals cooked with flair and imagination on the wood burning stove and served in the dining area or under the African sky. Early morning tea is taken around the campfire during sunrise where the bread is freshly toasted over the fire. There is no better way to start the day in the bush!
