Botswana - Featured Trips

The Green Season in Botswana (Dec-Mar) is becoming an increasingly popular time of year to travel with excellent value for money lodge rates. Hence it provides a great opportunity for people who could otherwise not afford Botswana or returning visitors who would like to experience a different side to a Botswana safari. However, you need to be aware what you are letting yourself in for when travelling during these months. Rainfall in Botswana typically consists of short afternoon showers - often a welcome relief from the heat of the day - however, prolonged heavy rains are not uncommon.

Game movements are largely affected by rainfall and hence the safari experience during Green Season is not the same to that during the dryer months, when large herds of animals are concentrated around permanent waterholes. In Green Season, game is typically widely dispersed due to the readily available rainwater that collects in pans scattered throughout the bush. There is still game present though in smaller numbers.

The scenery during Green Season however is refreshingly lush, the birdlife is spectacular and it is a privilege to see mothers with their newborn calves.

Green Season is considered the best for visiting the Central Kalahari and Makgadikgadi Pans. The summer rains transform these desolate landscapes into a thriving paradise, teeming with thousands of springbok, gemsbok, zebra and wildebeest, closely followed by hungry predators.
