Kenya - Places To Stay
Kenya is named after Mount Kenya and known as the original African Safari destination. The country's annual Wildebeest Migration in the Masai Mara, combined with a rich cultural heritage and the scenic beauty of the Great Rift Valley and tropical coastline, make it one of the most popular and well known year round holiday destinations in Africa.
Well known parks and reserves include the Masai Mara, Amboseli and Tsavo. These parks all offer very diverse landscapes and an abundance of wildlife and bird species. The coastal areas are popular for their palm fringed white beaches, crystal clear waters and warm climate. A fly in safari to a remote game reserve combined with a couple of days at a beach destination like Mombasa or Lamu, is the best way to experience Kenya's natural beauty.

Every year visitors come from all over the world to witness the annual Wildebeest Migration into the Masai Mara. The reserve is only a short flight from Kenya's capital, Nairobi. There are a wide variety of safari camps and lodges in the reserve and surrounding conservation areas. Mobile safaris are available in private 4x4 safari vehicles with pop-up roof to allow optimal game viewing and accompanied by a local diver/guide.
Mobile safaris can be based on camping, lodges or a mixture of both. Mobile camping is in tents with canvas camping beds and bed linen & blankets on special, but public campsites (not recommended for children under 12 years).
Fly-in safaris are based in lodges and semi-permanent tented camps and avoid long road transfers between the parks.
There are various accommodation options available in the area. We try to avoid large establishments and prefer to make use of smaller camps and lodges that have a minimum impact on the environment. Below you will find a selection of our preferred lodges and camps carefully selected with our responsible travel philosophy in mind.

Within the area known as the Great Rift Valley in Kenya, one can explore a few of the Great Lakes of East Africa. The Eastern Rift Valley lakes have no outlet to the sea and tend to be shallow. They have a high mineral content as the evaporation of water leaves the salts behind. Lake Nakuru is strongly alkaline which draws in huge flocks of bright pink flamingos. The freshwater springs supplying Lake Naivasha are essential to support its current biological variety.
The area is within a days drive from Nairobi and most lodges are located around and near the lakes offering spectacular views. Below you will find a selection of our preferred lodges carefully selected with our responsible travel philosophy in mind.
