Malawi - Highlights

Described as the "warm heart of Africa", Malawi's friendly local people, laid back atmosphere and gorgeous scenery make it easy to kick back and relax on the beaches around Lake Malawi, the country's premier tourist attraction. Malawi is landlocked and situated in the heart of east-central Africa. Dominated by the Rift Valley, the country includes an extensive area of high interior plateaus with steep escarpments, found to be plunging in places into the waters of Lake Malawi.

Lake Malawi is one of the world's top freshwater dive destinations, which also offers hidden and unspoilt tropical islands for relaxation and adventurous beach-based holidays. The mostly water-based activities are endless, from kayaking and sailing to scuba-diving and mountain biking it's shores.

Liwonde National Park is the closest thing Malawi has to a traditional game park. A relatively small but beautiful park, Liwonde offers a variety of wildlife and is popular amongst bird watchers. Excellent guides will take you on game drives, night drives, walking safaris and boat trips on the Shire River. One of Malawi's lesser-known game reserves, Vwaza Marsh, is a hidden treasure that only gets visited by those in the know. The reserve offers a large number of wildlife and a variety of bird species mainly concentrated around the lake. Guided game walks make it possible to get close to nature and provide excellent photographic opportunities.

BAOBAB's Malawi Safaris can be arranged on a tailor-made basis. We cover a variety of accommodation options in either lodges or liveaboard catamarans on Lake Malawi.
