Malawi - Places To Stay
Mozambican shore, Lake Malawi - Nkwichi Lodge is a genuine unspoilt wilderness. The beach on the shores of Lake Malawi with its fine, white sand is the central feature around which the lodge has been built. The main lodge building has a dining room raised high on a platform providing views out over the lake. The chalets are cleverly tucked into the trees along the lakeshore providing unique views across the crystal clear water. The chalets all vary in size and design depending on their setting but are all made of local wood, stone and grass thatch.

Five percent of the income generated from the lodge goes directly to one of the projects that the lodge supports. Projects include protecting 100 000ha of savannah, streams, swamps, mountains and lakeshore. The Manda Wilderness Community Trust built 5 schools, 1 maternity clinic, 1 maize mill and 2 church roofs. The Manda Wilderness Agricultural Project has assisted over 350 farmers as well as improving the nutrition of communities in Lago District. The Lodge employs 75 local people which directly supports a further 1,125 family members. The lodge is run entirely on solar power and is determined to keep its carbon footprint as small as possible.
Electricity is provided by a generator during the day, and lighting provided by paraffin lamps at night. Battery recharging limited.
