Mozambique - Featured Trips
The whole of Northern Mozambique is only very slowly opening up to tourism. Along the tropical coastline are a series of islands, which have been dubbed `the African Carribean' due to their white sand beaches lined with palm trees. The area also has a rich and colourful cultural heritage, and some of the oldest towns in Mozambique.
The itinerary begins on the mainland in Quirimbas National Park at Guludo - nominated one of the world's top 20 beaches by the Daily Telegraph. Enjoy sunset dhow trips, bush & village walks, diving and snorkelling. The second part is spent on Ibo Island providing you a glimpse into the region's eclectic history.
Arrive in Pemba and transfer by road to Guludo Beach Lodge in the Quirimbas. Depending on your arrival time, a late afternoon activity can be arranged, or just relax in your bungalow on the beach overlooking the Indian Ocean. Overnight at Guludo Beach Lodge on FB basis.
Explore Guludo's spectacular natural surroundings and choose from a variety of complimentary lodge activities. Romantic trips to secluded islands or cultural excursions to nearby Ibo Island can be arranged. Guludo also offers special family and child friendly excursions, tailored to suit your family's needs.
A range of diving options from sheltered tranquil coral gardens to drop-offs with strong currents are available. There are four distinct diving regions to be explored. Rolas Island, ideal for beginers and photographers; Matemo Channel, known for large schools of game fish; Zala Bank, a fast sand bank with sheer drop-offs; and Ibo Island, frequented by reef sharks and rays. Overnight at Guludo Beach Lodge on FB basis.
The best known of the Quirimbas Archipelago is Ibo Island. This island's history has been richly coloured with Portuguese fortresses and by the Arab slave trade. Ibo is an intriguing place and had become the most important town in Mozambique by the late 18th century. Three forts, a beautiful old catholic church and numerous ancient trading buildings stand guard over the sea. Pirates, ivory and intrigue and the never to be forgotten slave trade, featured on this little palm-fringed coral island. Explore the island's rich cultural heritage and enjoy a variety of other activities like a cruise on a traditional Dhow, sea kayaking and traditional massages. Overnight at Ibo Island Lodge on FB basis.
Catch a short flight from Ibo Island to Pemba, in time for your connecting flight home.
