Namibia - Featured Trips
Amongst the unique rugged landscape of Namibia lives a diverse and special fauna and flora. This tour takes you not only to world renowned areas such as Etosha and Damaraland, but also gives you the opportunity to experience the Himba people and San Bushman living traditional lifestyles in an ever changing world.
You will start at Okonjima - home to the AfriCat Foundation - where amongst others you will be able to track radio collared leopards and see the feeding of the resident cheetahs. In Damaraland you will be guided through the dry river beds to encounter the uniquely adapted desert elephants. Experience the cultural sights of Africa's unique San rock art at Twyfelfontein as well as the opportunity to participate in cultural tours to the local communities of Himba people in the north.
Following a visit of Etosha National Park and its awesome salt pan. Following you will visit the Nhoma area and spend 2 nights next to the traditional San Bushman village of //Nhoq'ma, offering a genuine bushman experience. In the Windhoek area, in a private reserve you can track rhino on foot and be pampered in their Spa.
Arrive at Windhoek International Airport and pick up a rental vehicle (based on Toyota Avanza 1.5l or similar). An approx 2.5 hrs drive north will take you to Okonjima - the home of the AfriCat Foundation. The foundation is set on a private reserve where Kudu and Oryx roam amongst the wild cats that the foundation have rescued and reintroduced to the wild. A particular highlight is tracking the radio collared leopard in the reserve with the AfriCat guides. An amazing opportunity to see big cats up close and learn about the Foundation. After breakfast depart for Grootberg Lodge, perched on the rim of the Grootberg Plateau in Damaraland. From here you can visit Twyfelfontein for the San rock art. Track the rare desert adapted elephants - only around 1000 survive in this harsh environment. We have already included a guided tour to view the desert elephants and a guided village tour with the local Himba people. Overnight at Grootberg Lodge on HB basis.
Drive into Etosha National Park and explore its natural beauty. Here you can stay in three or fewer different locations inside the national park. Overnight at various camps inside the park on BB basis - see e.g. Halali Camp, Namutoni Camp or Okaukuejo Camp
Exit Etosha in the east and drive to Nhoma. Here you will spend an unforgettable time with the Ju/'hoansi bushman. You are shown how the Ju/'hoansi bushman have lived in the past and how they still utilize the bush for food and medicine. Join the bushmen on a real bush walk, following fresh animal tracks and collecting food along the way, and witness some of the traditional healing dances performed in the evenings. Overnight at Nhoma Camp on a FB basis
To break up the journey back to Windhoek you will stay in the beautiful Waterberg Mountain area. Overnight at Frans Indongo Lodge on a HB basis
Travel back to Windhoek and enjoy your last 2 nights at the GocheGanas set on a 6,000 ha nature reserve with amongst others Rhino, Bat-eared Fox, Giraffe, Mountain & Plains Zebra, Cheetah, Jackal, Leopard, Blue & Black Wildebeest, Eland, Oryx, Red Hartebeest, Kudu, Springbok, Waterbuck, Steenbok, Duiker, Klipspringer, Ostrich, Warthog and a fascinating variety of birds. We have already included a guided game drive and nature walk, tracking rhino on foot if you wish, in your itinerary price.
If you would like to be pampered before going home, GocheGanas also has a Wellness Village with an in- & outdoor swimming pool, small gym and a wide variety of treatments. As GocheGanas is only 30 km southeast of Windhoek, you can also visit Windhoek for some arts & crafts shopping or a historical town walk. Overnight at GocheGanas - Elegant Suite on a FB basis
Return to Windhoek and drive to the International Airport and drop off rental vehicle in time for your international flight home.
