Namibia - Highlights
Namibia boasts remarkable natural attractions such as the Namib desert, the Fish River Canyon, Etosha National Park and the Kalahari desert. We offer fully tailor-made itineraries throughout Namibia, combining well known destinations with unique and off the beaten track experiences.
The entire length of Namibia's coastline is occupied by the sandy dunes of the Namib Desert. As well as the dramatic beauty of the landscape the desert also hosts a complex ecology with surprisingly large populations of oryx, zebra, ostrich, jackal and antelope. The best place to combine the splendour of the desert with wildlife is the Namib Naukluft National Park - the fourth largest national park in the world. Set amongst the coastal desert visit the unique town of Swakopmund with its Germanic architecture and gem stone stores. Whilst on the coast a boat tour to view the huge cape seal colony together with dolphins and birdlife is a highlight.
No Namib Desert Safari is complete without an excursion to Sossuvlei. Here in one of the world's most photographed destinations is the classic image of a petrified forest contrasted between the flowing mountains of bright red sand. It is possible to walk along the dune ridges to view the site from an elevated position before dropping into the basin of white clay and gnarled tree trunks. One of the best ways to view the spectacular sand dunes and rocky outcrops of the desert is from the air. Balloon flights are possible from various locations across the Namib Desert with the area close to Sossuvlei being a particular highlight.
With its contrasting landscapes, ranging from rocky arid lands to well watered game parks the northern half of the country provides a wildlife experience to rival anywhere in Africa. Etosha National Park is one of the continents greatest game viewing areas with huge herds of elephant and both black and white rhino. Or get involved and see the work done by the Africat Foundation. Africat rescue and rehabilitate big cats caught on farmland across the country. Visitors can track radio collared leopard across the reserve as they are being prepared to be reintroduced into the wild.
The rocky landscape of Damaraland offers dramatic views as well as opportunities for cultural tourism amongst the Himba people and the sight of desert elephant and rhino.
