Namibia - Places To Stay
Mudumu National Park, Eastern Caprivi - Lianshulu Lodge, overlooking the Kwando River, is remotely situated in a private concession in the Mudumu National Park. This camp, one of the first private lodges built inside a Namibian National Park, is beautifully placed beneath a canopy of shady jackalberry and mangosteen trees, on the banks of the Kwando River. The individually styled, en-suite chalets and secluded wooden deck are shaded by lush riverine forest. The spacious thatched dining, lounge and bar areas open onto a large wooden deck, offering astonishing views of the Lianshulu Lagoon. Many typical savannah species occur in the Mudumu National Park including buffalo, zebra, wildebeest and waterbuck with elephant and hippo being particularly abundant. Predators are sometimes encountered and around 400 bird species have been recorded in the Eastern Caprivi.

Activities here include morning or sunset boat cruises, nature drives in the Park and visits to the Lizauli Traditional Village, a model homestead where members of the local community give fascinating insights into their way of life
As the only private lodge inside the remote Mudumu National Park, Lianshulu has generated training and employment opportunities for many Caprivians. Lianshulu has been instrumental in creating the Lizauli Village and Lizauli School for the local communities. The lodge helped the community to develop a traditional village as a tourist attraction. The Lodge injected the start-up capital to build the village and provided advisory support on its operation. Members of the Lizauli community provide greater insight into local Caprivi life - from traditional practices to dancing displays. For a small fee, guests have the opportunity to visit both the village and the school, and items (arts and crafts) which the villagers have made can be purchased, generating income for the local community.
Lianshulu also hosts "training sessions" for the local school children. This important grass-roots educational initiative changes the mindset of children who may view wildlife as pests or not understand the necessity of caring for their environment. The children spend a day or two at the lodge, learning about the tourism industry, and how to protect, care for and respect their wildlife and environment.
Lianshulu Lodge has further initiated a bed night levy where a proportion of proceeds from the lodge are paid to the neighbouring communities. To date the monies have been divided between individual households and community projects. The lodge also provide compensation for livestock killed by lions, and compensate for loss of annual hunting quota by buying cattle for community feasts instead of hunting buffalo from the park.
Payment can be made by: Cash, travellers' cheques or Visa / MasterCard
