Home to the Africat Foundation and your stay here will give you an ideal opportunity to witness their world renowned big cat conservation work. Track rehabilitated cheetahs on foot, guided bushman trail, Self guided walking trails, bird watching.
Africat Foundation was founded in 1991 to promote large carnivore conservation and animal welfare in Namibia. One of their main activities involves the rescue and rehabilitation of big cats, mostly leopard and cheetah, caught on farmland across the country. Many of the cats and the wild dogs living on Okonjima's reserve are individuals that for various reasons can no longer be returned into the wild. Here they are offered a second chance to live a semi-natural existence and at the same time serve as ambassadors for their species. For Okonjima's guests it means a unique opportunity to experience these magnificent but endangered creatures up close. All their guests are free to participate in any of the Africat activities, including leopard tracking, cheetah tracking & feeding, bushman walk and birding. After your evening dinner your guide will accompany you to their floodlit night hide. This is a unique opportunity to view porcupine, honey badgers and caracal as well as leopard as they come down to drink and feed on kitchen scraps.
