Namibia - Places To Stay
Kwando River Region - Susuwe Island Lodge is situated in the Big Game Kwando Region, which has long been regarded as one of the last places to watch the great elephant herds of Africa in their natural surroundings. Susuwe offers visitors the opportunity to experience a wild and untouched African island paradise where relaxation, privacy and comfort are paramount. The lodge was built to incorporate the riverine forest and natural surroundings. The main complex has large viewing decks overlooking endless savannah and wetlands teeming with birdlife. The spacious brick and thatch suites each have a private viewing deck with plunge pool.
Susuwe offers excellent cuisine - al-fresco style in a variety of romantic settings. The kitchen caters for special occasions such as honeymoons, anniversaries and birthdays. Guests are surprised with moonlight dinners on a river sandbank, a private candlelit dinner for 2 on your own deck or a champagne brunch at the historical baobab.

Susuwe Island Lodge has been developed as a joint venture partnership with the Mayuni Conservancy. The Kwando River is a permanent water source that nourishes delicate ecosystems, and the area boasts abundant and varied game and birdlife. In order for the balance to be maintained, protection is required from the indiscrimanate utilisation of the natural resource base. In keeping with this, conservation projects such as the development of an anti-poaching unit have already been initiated. A long term program is also underway in the area, the primary objective of which is the involvement of local communities in conservation initiatives. Skills and education enable the local population to be employed to meet these initiatives. The lodge also funded and built a conservancy campsite, called Kubunyana, which the local community manages and earns revenue from.
