Namibia - Places To Stay

Wolwedans Dune Camp
Namibrand Private Nature Reserve - Wolwedans Dune Camp is located in a private reserve amongst the Namib Desert. The scenery here varies from dunes to rocky mountains and supports some of the more unusual wildlife such as klipspringer - the rocky mountain antelope. Positioned on the edge of a 250-metre high dune, the Dune Camp sleeps a maximum of 12 guests in a totally unspoilt setting. Guests stay in comfortable dome-shaped tents pitched on wooden platforms, each furnished with standard beds (covered with down duvets), bedside tables and a suitcase rack. A spacious veranda, allowing for safe sleep-outs under the stars, and a private bathroom fitted with a hot shower, two washbasins and flush toilet make for a rather civilized camping experience. The lapa is comprised of a lounge, dining area and an open-plan kitchen, which allows guests to chat to the chef while he is preparing three course dinners. The sundowner deck with its elevated fireplace is the central meeting point of the camp providing a cosy and relaxed ambience.Whilst the lodge aims at accommodating those guests in need of relaxed comfort and space, the camp is a more down-to-earth and close to nature experience. Ideally suited for the younger and more adventurous traveller, the charm of the camp lies in its tranquil, intimate atmosphere, capturing the romance of a bygone era.

Responsible Travel
The Wolvedans Foundation is committed to human resource development through education and training for both employees and members of the local community. They have have implemented the Wolwedans Education Support Program (WESP). The Desert Academy was created in co-operation with The Namibian Tourist Board (NTB) and the National Training Authority (NTA) to raise the skills level of the local tourism workforce in Namibia. The Foundation has also successfully offered some employees a bursary to advance their education with courses at South Africa's Cape Technical and Namibia's Polytech in Windhoek.

With regards to Conservation, The Wolwedans Foundation has a close affiliation to the NamibRand Nature Reserve and will constantly work to support their interventions with funding and materials where possible. The funding of further education for employees interested in advancing their knowledge in Eco-Tourism, Nature Conservation and Sustainable Development, is offered.

Wolwedans chefs are now thrilled to offer organic salad greens, vegetables, and herbs to guests. Cultivated in their new greenhouses that are operated with drip irrigation. This initiative not only helps to improve freshness & quality of their food, but also reduces the carbon footprint.
