Stay another Day - Cape Town
Stay Another Day in Cape Town and get to know the real Mother City. Extend your itinerary to include interesting and off-the-beaten track experiences, such as the Cape Malay Cooking Safari, Walking with Baboons and a Township Cycling Safari. Below you will find more examples of activities and excursions that you can add to your Cape Town itinerary to extend your stay and learn more about its natural environment, people and cultures.

All of the below Stay Another Day suggestions create jobs & social upliftment and are as environmentally friendly as possible. They are also carefully chosen for their sustainability and many are FTTSA accredited. For more information and prices, please contact us.

Cape Malay Cooking Safari
Bo-Kaap Museum is the starting point for this half-day experience, where you will meet your guide. Take a stroll through the historic streets of the Bo-Kaap, Cape Town's Malay Quarter, and visit spice merchants and the local butchery to shop for the ingredients for a typical Cape Malay dish. During a hands-on cooking workshop (FTTSA accredited) in a nearby Bo-Kaap family home you will learn how to mix Masala, fold Samoosas and prepare a traditional Cape Malay curry. Over a mug of faloodah (a traditional, lightly rose-scented milky drink) your hostess and cooking instructor will tell you more about the ways in which food, history and religion are interwoven in the Bo-Kaap culture. The tour does not end until you having enjoyed your own home-cooked Cape Malay dishes.

Cape Town Jazz Safari
To truly get to know the rhythm of a culture, get to know the rhythms of its music and in Cape Town that means jazz. Cape Jazz is a distinctive mix of western and African influences and guards its secrets from newcomers. Our evening Cape Town Jazz Safari takes you right into the fabric of the city's musical spirit on an intimate evening excursion. Meet Cape jazz cats such as Mac McKenzie, Hilton Schilder and Robbie Jansen at their homes, have dinner & drinks while listening to exclusive performances by one of these virtuoso musicians. This unique experience is followed by a taste of Cape Town's contemporary sounds, as you venture into the city to enjoy live jazz at places such as the Green Dolphin or the West End Jazz Club.

Township Cycling Safari
Masipumelele, located in the heart of the Cape Peninsula, is a small township with an estimated population of about 25,000 people, most of who live in informal housing (shacks). This township tour by bike (FTTSA accredited) is a new take on township tours, providing you with more opportunities to interact with the community than you would have from an air-conditioned bus. Meet the people of Masipumelele, experience Xhosa Culture and discover township life by bicycle.

The tour starts at the BEN workshop, from where a local guide will take you round the township visiting interesting places and explaining some local customs. A highlight of the tour is to visit a pre-school where enthusiastic teachers work under very difficult circumstances. Next stop is to visit a Sangoma, a traditional healer, followed by an authentic African tea or lunch (lunch on request).

African Beading Workshop
Jewellery, toys, Christmas decoration and take home a personalized souvenir inspired by South African beading craft. Create beautiful patterns yourself, learning first hand from locals on this unique township tour in friendly Kayamandi close to Stellenbosch. Start off with a guided walk, which will give you an intimate introduction to everyday life in the township. Later, in the workshop of the community centre equipped with a beading kit, local crafters share the art of African beading with you.

Walking with Baboons
Baboon Matters will guide you across the mountains around Cape Town to spend time with the last remaining Chacma Baboons on the Cape Peninsula. Their specialized 2-3 hour walking tours will take you through the mountain fynbos until you encounter the baboons in their home territory. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to sit and watch these fascinating animals as they eat, play and socialize around you.

Kirstenbosch Summer Sunset Concerts
Pack a picnic basket (or we can provide you with a local goods basket) and grab a bottle of wine before you head out to the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens for a Summer Sunset Concert. Every Sunday afternoon from November to March, local artists play everything from folk to African fusion against the backdrop of Table Mountain.

Neighbourgoods Market
Visit the Neighbourgoods Market at the Old Biscuit Mill in Woodstock on a Saturday morning. The market provides a platform for local artists, designers, fine-food purveyors and organic producers to sell their produce and specialty goods to locals and visitors. Sample the wide range of products at the market, have breakfast or lunch or shop for a picnic on the beach.

Cape Town Private Gardens Tour
Cape Town Private Gardens Tour focuses on the indigenous private gardens that reflect the natural magnificence of the city, and the creativity of their gardeners. Each Route visits two private gardens and an indigenous nursery. At one of the homes, guests will enjoy a high tea with the creators of the gardens.
