Abalone Lodge draws its staff from the local community and offer an in-house training programme. They purchase 78% off all their produce locally or within 40km of Hermanus to boost the town's economical growth. All of their wine is sourced from the Walker Bay Wine region.
They have an active water, energy & waste management in place. The lodge has a borehole and makes use of water reservoirs to collect rainwater used in their indigenous gardens reducing the pressure on valuable water resources. In terms of energy management their staff are instructed to switch off lights that are not in use, laundry loads are monitored to save both water and power, geysers are switched off when not needed. Garden waste is given to a community garden with composting facilities. They also recycle all glass, paper, plastic and cans, a process that is handled off site and has assisted with job creation.
Cash in South Africa Rand is accepted. All major credit cards (Visa and MasterCard) are also accepted.
