South Africa - Places To Stay
Oudtshoorn - De Zeekoe Guest Farm (4*) is situated on a 2000 ha farm & reserve in an ecological region graced with 3 overlapping floral zones and considered one of the world's 17 'hot spots'. The old colonial homestead is more than 150 years old and is restored to its historic spendour. The on-site restaurant offers inventive and traditional cooking with a Karoo twist. Many of the ingredients are from De Zeekoe's organic farm, including many vegetables, fruits, olives, eggs and honey, and all meats on the menu are free range. Their extensive local wine list compliments their delicious 4-course dinners very well. Why not ask the kitchen to provide a picnic basket, so you can enjoy fresh and healthy food as you discover all that the area has to offer?
De Zeekoe offers different type of accommodation, ranging from superior suites with outdoor showers to rustic waterfront cabins. Their 12 stylish suites open onto cool verandahs set in lush indigenous gardens with spectacular views over the Outeniqua & Swartberg Mountains and the Olifants Riverbed. Each suite is tastefully styled with warm colours, soft textures and a personal touch. All rooms have Persian carpets, ceiling fan, TV, tea & coffee making facilities, minibar, air-conditioning (heating & cooling), hairdryer and towelling gowns. The four 3 star log cabins are set 5 mins drive from the main house and are built from alien poplar wood removed from the farm to establish endemic vegetation. The log cabins are very secluded with breathtaking views across De Zeekoe Lake and are equipped with 2 bedrooms, bath with shower, lounge, kitchenette and a large fireplace and deck, making them ideal for families. Secure parking is found on site at the Main House.

De Zeekoe Guest Farm employs and gives housing to 20 families on their farm. They aim to positively raise the standard of living and uplift the local community on an ongoing basis. Generations of their employees and their children have been educated by Zeekoegat Primary School. Zeekoegat Primary currently schools 120 primary children and 90 pre-primary children. However the current school building is in a state of disrepair and it has become unsafe and unstable. The Zeekoegat Primary School Trust, formed by adjoining landowners of Safari Ostrich Show Farm, De Zeekoe and farm Welgeluk, is in the process of building a new school for the local community and continously raise funds for the school.
Cash in South African Rands is accepted. All major credit cards are also accepted.
