Responsible Travel
Kololo (FTTSA accredited) are committed to capacity building in the local community through:

School bursary and educational programme:
Support of an underprivileged child at The Waterberg Academy (a private school in Vaalwater) giving the child an above average education. Educational field trips are conducted with The Waterberg Academy on Kololo Game Reserve to teach the children about wildlife, conservation and the environment. The restaurant facility is offered annually for fundraising.

Orphans assistance programme:
In association with the Waterberg Welfare Society (WWS), the Vaalwater orphans benefit through a guest support programme. Guests visiting Kololo are requested to bring along clothes for donation, or to assist by making monetary donations to the orphanage. Kololo hosts an annual event for the Aids children and supports a Hospice staff member.

Conservation efforts:
Plant a Tree Programme - through the planting of indigenous trees on Kololo Game Reserve guests can reduce their carbon footprint. Kololo has also provided a permanent research station on their reserve for leopard monitoring by the Limpopo Leopard Conservation Project and assists with the relocation and tracking of leopards.

They run a trade exchange with another lodge in Welgevonden, who grow fruit and vegetables locally supplying Kololo. In return Kololo supplies them with firewood from their alien Bluegum trees.

Kololo are in the process of installing of solar panels and geyser for the new chalets. Ultimately that are looking at replacing the use of non-renewable with solar energy across the entire lodge.
