South Africa - Places To Stay
Maputoland - Tembe National Elephant Park is considered as one of the few remaining wilderness areas in South Africa. Tembe is famous for its elephants and within the unique sand forest and grassland ecosystem roam over 220 of the largest elephants in the world, the last remaining indigenous herd in KwaZulu-Natal. The most famous is Isilo, who has his own Facebook page, and visits the Lodge quite regularly. Isilo is one of the last Great Tuskers and he is described as an elderly gent with impeccable manners.
Tembe combines the best of both worlds - an authentic Big Five experience in a national game park and the personal touch and world class service of a private luxury lodge. The lodge is 50% co-owned and managed by the Tembe tribe, headed by Nkosi (Chief) Tembe. Accommodation consists of luxury safari tents with en-suite bathrooms. Bush cuisine is served under the stars by lamplight in the communal boma.
