Stone Town - Formerly known as Emerson & Green, 236 Hurumzi is an exclusive Stone Town based hotel, impressively restored to its former glory. It has beautifully decorated en-suite rooms, all with individual decors and full of character. Most rooms have a large stone bathtub for an extraordinary bathing experience, and either a ceiling fan or air-conditioning.
Their newly restored building at 240 Hurumzi, adjoining 236 Hurumzi, offers six more rooms also elegantly furnished with Zanzibar beds and antique furnishings. 236 and 240 Hurumzi are located in the heart of historic Stone Town and offers great food in their romantic Tower Top restaurant. It is open on all sides and offers superb views over the old town and harbour.

The historical 236 Hurumzi building was carefully restored to its former glory staying true to the traditional style and architecture of Stone Town. The renovations were done according to government legislation, using traditional design and in keeping with the historical nature of the building, and is renowned for the quality of its restoration work. The families who originally lived here were compensated.
The hotel supports local AIDS / HIV organisations, provides AIDS awareness training to their staff, and distribute free condoms. The vast majority of their more than 40 regular and 20 or so casual staff are all from the local community. They support local dancers and musicians by providing them with an opportunity to perform and entertain guests with traditional music.
