Old Boma
Mikindani, Swahili Coast - The Old Boma is a 100 year old fort and a national monument, beautifully restored into a comfortable hotel whilst retaining its original features and charm. The Boma is set on a hillside overlooking the Indian Ocean, providing breathtaking views from dawn to dusk. The spacious en-suite rooms are furnished with hand-carved beds, Tinga-tinga paintings and other local handicrafts.

The restaurant serves organic vegetables from its market garden and fresh seafood bought direct from local fishermen. There is a large swimming pool surrounded by Frangipani & Flame trees, and a poolside bar with the Old Courthouse providing shaded seating.

Travel Information
A long drive from Dar es Salaam (approximately 8 hours). Alternatively flights from Dar es Salaam to Mikindani can be arranged, followed by a 15 minutes transfer from Mtwara airport to the Old Boma in Mikindani

Activities
The Boma offers a wide range of activities, including local market trips, lessons in Swahili language & cookery, Tinga-tinga painting, fishing in dug-out canoes, Dhow trips, bike hire and scuba-diving on virgin reefs.

Responsible Travel
The Old Boma is run by Trade Aid Tanzania, a charitable trust whose aim is to create sustainable employment. So far some 40 jobs have been created in the Old Boma and a further 20 in the other ventures, such as the organic market garden supplying the Boma, a tree nursery and a small restaurant ‘Samaki' to serve the local people.
