Mafia Island - Pole Pole is a luxurious yet unpretentious resort set on the southern side of the main island. It has pleasant tropical gardens and spectacular coastal views. The elegant and spacious bungalows are built by local craftsman, entirely out of wood and raised on stilts. They are all spacious with a private veranda overlooking a stretch of sandy beach and Chole Bay. Gourmet meals are served in the dining/bar lounge with an attractive ethnical decor.

Mafia Island

A short 30 minute flight from Dar es Salaam in a light aircraft to Mafia airstrip, followed by a 20 minute drive to Kilindoni, the main village, to the lodge.

Aromatherapy massages on the beach or in the comfort of your own room, daily boat trips in traditional dhows, jeep excursions, bike hire and scuba-diving in the Marine Park.

The lodge buys its food from local fishermen and cooperative organic farms and is an important local employer providing jobs & in-house training for locals, whose income generation is restricted by Mafia Island's Marine Park policies. Pole Pole focuses on alternative income generating projects for young people & women, treat their wastewaters in a phyto-purification system and have initiated a recycling scheme on Mafia.
