Selous Game Reserve - Rufiji River Camp has a prime location on the banks of the mighty Rufiji River. The section of Selous north of the river is an area of miombo forest with dense areas of hardwood and is home to around 50% of Tanzania's elephant population. It is also home to large numbers of buffalo and lion, as well as a healthy population of Wild dogs. The Rufiji itself is a sprawling waterway with 5 distinctive 'lakes' joint together by a myriad of channels. It is a birders paradise with over 440 species of birds recorded, including the rare Pel's Fishing Owl and White-Backed Heron. Selous is the only Game area in Tanzania to offer river boat safaris.

Rufiji camp has recently been redesigned and renovated with much larger, airy tents built on wooden platforms. The safari tents all have river views and are shaded by makuti roofs. Each tent has an en-suite bathroom and an extended and shaded veranda, where you can relax between safari activities and enjoy the many hippos in front of the camp. Meals are served in their open restaurant/bar/lounge area again with fantastic river views and their shaded swimming pool provides the necessary refreshment during the heat of the day.

Drive time from Dar es Salaam is approximately 6-8 hours. Daily scheduled flights available from Arusha, Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar

Children of all ages are welcome, but please be aware that the tents are set on a bank dropping steeply into the river.

You can chose from daily riverboat cruise, game drives or bush walks with an experienced and armed ranger.

Rufiji River Camp is environmentally friendly camp with swimming pool water from filtered river water and all its drinking water is ozone-filtered river water. Hot water is solar powered. Electricity is provided by generator, available for lighting and recharging batteries but not for hairdryers.
