Tanzania - Places To Stay
Selous Game Reserve - Sable Mountain Lodge is located in the Beho Beho Hills - a remote part of Selous. The park is home to large populations of some of Africa's most sought after game, including elephant, lion, wild dog, leopard, buffalo, hippo, crocodile and herds of plains game. Selous is one of the few parks in Tanzania that allows walking safaris. Whilst foot safaris are not as prolific in game sightings as other safaris, it does allow you to get closer to its smaller, sometimes overlooked, inhabitants whilst still offering the potential of a face to face wild encounter to keep you on your toes!
The stone cottages and luxury tented bandas are spaced out across the hillside, and are all en-suite, have spring water supply, solar lighting and a private veranda with wonderful views. The two honeymoon bandas are in the most private setting and with outdoor showers provide the ultimate romantic bush experience. Their two open-air restaurants and bar areas serve international cuisine and the swimming pool is fed by natural springwater. There is also a treehouse overlooking a waterhole attracting regular evening visitors such as elephant, buffalo, leopards, sable antelope and wild dogs.

All their staff are on contracts and are paid well over Tanzania's minimum wage. They also have a soft loan scheme for their staff for major purchases like land & housing and donate 10% of its profits to community development projects.

The lodge is closed from 1 Apr - 31 May
The Stone Cottages at Sable Mountain Lodge are undergoing a major facelift and they are building a beautiful new bar and library complex between the existing swimming pool and upper restaurant.
