Tanzania - Places To Stay
Mikumi National Park - Stanley's Kopje is situated on the traditional trader and exploration routes taken by the likes of Stanley, Burton, Speke and Livingtone on their epic journeys to find the source of the River Nile. The camp offers classic African-style safari in custom designed tents. It is set around a rocky kopje overlooking the Mkata river floodplain offering uninterrupted panoramic views across the plains with herds converging to drink at the Mwanambogo waterhole.
The 12 en-suite tents are spaced around the base of the hill with open vistas stretching out as far as the eye
can see. The tents are raised on wooden platforms, have thatched roofs, private verandas and bathrooms with solar heated water. The dining/lounge area with campfire place offers stunning 360 degree views and warm hospitality.
The open grasslands of Mikumi change through a spectrum of oranges and yellows throughout the day with with large herds of Nyasa Blue Wildebeest, buffalo, impala, zebra and giraffe. Where there are large herds of game, there are always plenty of predators waiting for dinner. The best time for game viewing is in the dry months between June and February. All game drives around the park are taken in open 4x4 vehicles designed to ensure maximum visibility for all passengers.

Classic game drives in open 4x4 vehicles and walking safaris with park ranger (additional charge) in Mikumi National Park.
A day trek in Udzungwa Mountains National Park (full day excursion): Udzungwa is a remnant of the Eastern Arc Rainforest that used to stretch along the eastern rift and has a high degree of endemism both in flora and fauna. Of the 10 primates found here 4 are endemic only to Udzungwa, including the Red Hehe Colobus and the Crested Mangaby. There are also a couple of endemic Galagoes (bushbabies) and several endemic birds (incl Rufous Winged Sunbird & Udzungwa partridge). The discovery of new species is an ongoing affair with 2 completely new genera of mammal being identified in the last 8 years, namely the Giant Elephant Shrew and the Kipunji Monkey, a baboon sized grey animal.
On this trek you will walk under the rainforest canopy from where the endemic primates and birds to emerge and reach Sanje Water Falls with its spectacular views over the Rift Valley below. The walk is relatively steep and not suitable for young children or visitors with a medical or mobility problems. The drive between Mikumi and Udzungwa takes approx 1.5 hrs. The trek is led by a park Ranger and guide from the camp and the duration varies with speed of walking and time spent viewing en-route.
