Tanzania - Places To Stay
Serengeti National Park - Suyan camp is an exclusive, seasonal camp based in the Loliondo Game Area, the spectacular, wild, Maasai inhabited area in the eastern Serengeti. Animals roam freely as there are no fences between the NP and the bordering game areas. Suyan Camp operates from mid-December to March in this area through partnership agreements with the village of Piyaya. Piyaya private concession is located in southern Loliondo with easy access to Ngorongoro Conservation Area. It offers stunning landscapes with the Gol Mountains and the deep Sanjan Gorge, unspoilt Maasai culture, ancient rock paintings and excellent possibilities for walking. Parts of Piyaya have good resident game and the Migration moves into the area when it rains. The rare wild dog (Suyan meaning wild dog in Maasai) has been a regular sight for Suyan guests in recent years.
A stay in the intimate Suyan Camp reflects the history of the land. Although the camp is the home base of a stay in the area, walking safaris and fly camping will take you deep into this wild and ancient land. Your stay at Suyan is not about luxury, but about discovery, exploration and solitude. The safari style tents have comfortable en-suite bathrooms with flushing toilets and safari showers. After activities, guests gather around the fire, at a sundowner spot and in the common dining and library tent.

Walking safaris: Besides the animals you may encounter on walks, you can learn about the small creatures, animal tracks, wildlife behaviour and Maasai culture. A typical walk can range from 30 mins to 4 hrs. Longer walks can be very rewarding, especially when combined with fly camping. Children of all ages can walk in Piyaya, but at the discretion of the guide.
Fly camping: Fly camping in the Piyaya Concession Area is a great experience for adventure lovers and can give access to the more remote, wild parts of the Loliondo. The tents are simple & lightweight with good quality mattresses on the floor and mosquito mesh sides so the stars can be seen from your bed. The tents are not en-suite, but have a shared short-drop toilet and shower cubicle. All fly camping needs to be booked in advance.
