Tanzania - Places To Stay

Unguja Lodge
Zanzibar South Coast - Unguja Lodge is an up market, small scale hotel situated on the southern tip of Zanzibar Island. The spacious, private bungalows are set in beautiful tropical gardens, which attract indigenous wildlife species like the rare Red Colubus monkey. The Zanzibar style bungalows look out over the Indian Ocean where local fisherman pass by in their traditional dhows on a daily basis. The restaurant serves excellent Zanzibar style cuisine, and the resident chef makes use of traditional ingredients combining fresh seafood with homegrown spices. A private barbeque lunch on one of the small deserted islands near the southern coast can be organized on request. Relax and enjoy a fresh fruit cocktail at the bar or walk along the white sandy beach while watching the sun set in the east.

Responsible Travel
The lodge has been constructed using local materials and craftsmen, whilst being sensitive to the local environment. No trees and plants were removed during construction, and some structures were literally built around the existing trees and shrubs. Indigenous animals like the Red Colubus monkey, dik diks and a variety of birds are found in the surrounding tropical gardens, and gardeners are trained to preserve the environment by making use of organic fertilizers. The lodge employs mostly local Zanzibari people from Zizimkazi Village, and also supports a school project in the village.
