Zambia - Places To Stay
Kafunta River Lodge is a family run, classic Zambian safari lodge located centrally in a quiet corner of the South Luangwa National Park. It is built around a wild mango tree and overlooking the floodplain of the Luangwa River. All chalets are built on raised wooden platforms and overlook the game rich floodplain. All have recently been refurbished and the luxury suites with an upstairs viewing deck are new additions to the lodge.
Kafunta's spacious wooden deck above the waterhole provides you with undisturbed views over the floodplain. The lodge also has a pool and natural hot tub, fed completely by natural and local geothermal water. When darkness falls, enjoy a scrumptious candlelit dinner under the African stars, whilst watching animals attracted to the floodlights at waterhole in front of the lodge.
Kafunta River Lodge has its own pontoon based 5 mins drive from the lodge. The adventurous river crossing takes you into the more remote areas of the park. The safari activities on offer focus on day & night game drives, although the early hours of the day are ideal for a walk in the bush.

Mostly day & night game drives with optional morning bush walks available.
The lodge is built to blend in with its natural surroundings, leaving as many as possible native trees and plants intact. It was built by hand, using local skills and people, and is constructed mostly of natural materials. They employ and train staff from the local community whenever they can.
They also contribute a percentage of their revenue to the South Luangwa Conservation Society and Project Luangwa. The South Luangwa Conservation Society is a non-profit community based organisation committed to the conservation and preservation of wildlife and natural resources in South Luangwa. Kafunta are one of the founding members and Trustees of Project Luangwa, a charity that strives to increase the number of children attending school, improve educational facilities, increase the number of qualified teachers, and improve the standard of teaching at schools in the Mfuwe area.
Cash in all major currencies is accepted. Credit card and Traveller Cheques accepted with a surcharge.
Lodge is closed between Jan-Mar during the rainy season.
