Romantic Malawi Bush & Beach Honeymoon

Start with a wildlife safari in Liwonde National Park with its riverine swamps, forests and grasslands. This wide diversity of habitats gives rise to some of the most scenic game viewing in Malawi and great bird watching. It offers not only game drives, but also river boat safaris. From Liwonde you will travel to Lake Malawi to spend some time relaxing, getting to know the local people, enjoying Lake Niassa’s clear waters and explore Likoma Island.

DAY 1: Arrival

On arrival in Lilongwe you will be met and transferred by road to Liwonde National Park. The transfer will take approximately 4 hours. Liwonde is Malawi’s premier wildlife destination, and known for its boat safaris on the Shire River. You will spend the next three nights in a luxury lodge on the banks of the Shire River.

DAY 2-4: Safari in Liwonde National Park

Spend two full days on safari in Liwonde, including game drives and boat safaris.

DAY 5: Travel to Lake Malawi

A road transfer will take you back to Lilongwe to catch a charter flight to Likoma Island on Lake Malawi. You will be staying the romantic Kaya Mawa Lodge on Likoma Island, rated by Condé Nast Magazine as one of the planet’s ten most romantic destinations.

Likoma Island is covered with mango trees and ancient baobabs and encircled by glorious sandy beaches and rocky coves. To visit Likoma is to step back in time. The island remains almost untouched since its discovery by Scottish Missionaries at the end of the nineteenth century, and measures just 17 sq km with dirt roads and a few vehicles.  

Alternative – travel by boat to the remote Manda Wilderness and Nkwichi Lodge on the Mozambican shores of Lake Malawi.

Overnight at  Kaya Mawa, Full board basis including non-motorised activities.

DAY 6-9: Likoma Island, Lake Malawi

Spend your time exploring, swimming, snorkelling, kayaking, sailing or just relaxing.

Overnight at  Kaya Mawa, Full board basis including non-motorised activities.

DAY 10: Departure

Boat transfer back to Likoma and internal flight to Lilongwe in time your international flight home.
