Mossel Bay accommodation:

Hoogekraal Country House
The Hoogekraal Country House offers not only truly unique accommodation, but is also an ideal location for exploring the dramatic countryside of the Garden Route. Hoogekraal is located just off the main N2 between the historic port of Mossel Bay and the Outenquia Mountain Range. It is a gracious historic home set in old gardens and trees, which provide a peaceful setting.

The property is actually two adjoining properties dating from 1760 and 1820. Each has three double bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms. One room has an attic with two single beds allowing it to be used as a family room. The real ambience lies in the furnishings and décor of the property. Each room is tastefully decorated with fine antiques and family heirlooms from the owners’ own collection.

Each night the proprietors hold a candle lit dinner party, which includes a five-course meal, accompanied with sherry, port and South African wine and prepared from produce grown on the estate or from the nearby bay. The estate farm is the second oldest in the Southern Cape.

Price: 2 nights in Hoogekraal Country House (double room en-suite in the 1760 house) starts from £70 per person.
Price includes breakfast and is based on 2 people sharing. A 5-course dinner with wine & spirits is £24 per person.

Hog Hollow Country Lodge
Hog Hollow is an excellent example of high quality accommodation being managed by the local black community. The South African owners have fully trained cooks, waiters, cleaners and a management team from the Plettenberg Bay region, hence the money spent here by tourists immediately benefits the local community. Hog Hollow Country Lodge is set on the edge of indigenous forest, with breathtaking views of the surrounding valleys and Tsitsikamma Mountains on the scenic Garden Route.

The 12 individual bungalows, decorated in earthy colours with traditional African arts and woven fabrics, are situated in the gardens surrounding the main house. All bungalows have cosy fireplaces with a lounge area, perfect for those chilly winter nights, and beautiful en-suite bathrooms. Each bungalow has a private wooden deck with spectacular views over the nearby forests and mountains. Velvet monkeys, an integral part of Hog Hollow, can be found playing in the trees and on the roof of your bungalow.

Farmhouse breakfasts are served on the wooden deck overlooking the forest on crisp clear days or indoors near the huge fireplace when it is cooler. In the evenings, guests can enjoy scrumptious 4-course dinners around the convivial table in the comfort of the candle-lit main farmhouse.

Price: 2 nights in Hog Hollow Country House (standard bungalow) starts from £150 per person.
Price includes breakfast and is based on 2 people sharing. Four course dinner is £20 per person.
