Bucha Bushcamp
The Buchu Bushcamp is a more rustic accommodation for the nature lover, designed and built by Rory Allardice – a local environmental conservationist. The camp is situated to the south of Swellendam on the boundary of the De Hoop Nature Reserve. The Bucha Bushcamp offers 6 self-contained, thatched chalets with each 2 bedrooms, which are serviced daily. A lapa with restaurant offers traditional meals and refreshments for those who don't fancy self-catering.

Bucha Bushcamp is an ideal base for outdoor recreation in the surrounding area. Walks from the camp include spectacular views of the De Hoop Vlei, its coastline and plains. The camp have professional guides from South Cape Safaris offering specialised tours and hiking trails in De Hoop Nature Reserve, who are keen to raise environmental awareness and educate people on the unique and endemic plant species of this region.

Price: 2 nights accommodation only in Bucha Bushcamp (self-contained chalet) starts from £70 per chalet (based on 2 people sharing) or £35 per chalet (based on 4 people sharing). Breakfast in their restaurant is £6 per person.

Potterberg Guest Farm
Also on the boundary of the De Hoop Nature Reserve, this working farm offers two spacious self-catering en-suite double rooms in a private flat. Meals from the farm can be produced on request and there is also a barbeque facility. Firewood provided on request.

This is a unique accommodation, which offers the both the tranquillity of a farm environment and the chance to participate in the working activities including ostrich farming. Of special interest to birdwatchers is the chance to view two important species nearby. Large flocks of blue crane can be seen in the winter and just a few kilometres away is the last remaining breeding colony of the Cape Griffin Vulture in the Western cape region. They can often be seen soaring overhead.

Swellendam accommodation:

 

Braeside B&B
Located at the outskirts of Swellendam town, Braeside is renowned for the breathtaking views of the Langeberg Mountains and Marloth Nature Reserve from its huge secluded grounds. A refreshing saltwater swimming pool and guest 'braai' facilities are provided in the grounds.

There are 5 full-facility guestrooms decorated in differing traditional styles, all with en-suite bathrooms. The spacious English rooms are decorated in Victorian style with extra-firm yet comfortable double beds and a large corner bath. Also available with twin three-quarter size beds, if preferred. The African rooms are decorated in authentic style with large bedrooms and luxurious en-suite bathrooms. Available with oversize twin beds, or one queen size double bed. The Dutch rooms feature large twin beds with elegant copper frames and Colonial decoration with period furnishings. All rooms have pure cotton linens and towels, and a complimentary minibar.

Rothman Manor's historic building is located on the main Voortrek Street just 15 minutes walk from the centre of Swellendam. The Manor occupies more than 3 hectares and consists of two national monuments, both built in 1834. The houses were built in the typical Cape Dutch style. At present, the owners are establishing an eco-reserve on about 2 ha of the estate, where they have already planted more than 500 indigenous trees. The next step is constructing a dam to attract birdlife and keeping some springbok and ostrich etc.

There is a choice between 4 different suites, 3 in the garden cottage and the 4th situated in the main house and 1 standard double room. All of the rooms are decorated with an eye to detail in a blend of African and European style. Each room has a private entrance and en-suite bathrooms with heated tile floors! Modern conveniences such as TV and hairdryers are also provided.
