British Airways introduces special bag charges

Thursday, March 12th 2009

British Airways will introduce a charge for oversized checked baggage and a special bag charge for certain items to cover the additional cost of handling these items.

For anybody travelling from the 1st April 2009, a £25 handling charge for bags between 90 x 75 x 43 cm and 240 x 75 x 65 cm and a £25 charge for firearms will apply for all customers travelling in World/Euro Traveller (economy) and World Traveller Plus (premium economy) cabins.

Payment of these handling charges can only be made at the airport when you drop off your baggage.

The maximum dimensions of items that can be checked in without incurring this special bag charge at all airports worldwide are now 90 x 75 x 43 cm.

Items that exceed the maximum dimensions of 240 x 75 x 65 cm will no longer be accepted. Customers will be asked to re-pack into smaller bags that do not exceed the dimensions or to make arrangements for their items to be sent as cargo.

Customers' standard baggage allowance does not change as a result of the introduction of the special bag charge.
