By working with responsible operators, BAOBAB indirectly promotes a wide variety of interesting and worthwhile projects across Africa. One good example is the owner of Marine Dynamics and Dyer Island Cruises, Wilfred Chivell who is the driving force behind many conservation and community projects. They are actively involved in coastal conservation through e.g. collecting & caring for injured birds and seals found along the coast and a percentage of their income is donated to Western Cape Nature Conservation Board. They are also committed to community upliftment and train local guides, distribute handcrafted cards to clients after boat trips and making an annual donation to the Silwejare Old Age Home. Their latest project on Dyer Island aims to stop the recent decline of the African penguin by constructing of artificial penguin homes for nesting.
