Africa is home to three deserts, the Sahara, Kalahari, and Namib Desert, and together they comprise more than 25% of the continent. The Sahara is the third largest desert (after the Antarctica and Arctic) and is the largest hot desert. It stretches from the Red Sea, including parts of the Mediterranean coasts, to the outskirts of the Atlantic Ocean and to the south it is delimited by the Sahel. The Kalahari is a cold, rocky desert in southern Africa, covering much of Botswana and parts of Namibia and South Africa. It has huge tracts of excellent grazing after good rains. The Namib, in southwest Africa, is one of the hottest and driest places on earth, with even less precipitation than the Sahara.
