Self-drive holidays are very common in South Africa and Namibia. Both offer good quality road networks and they drive on the left (good for Brits, not so good for other Europeans & Americans). The main roads are tarred and well sign-posted. The minor roads are generally reasonably good quality grit roads, in some cases a 4x4 vehicle is recommended. The roads outside of the cities are generally spacious and quiet, especially in Namibia you can drive for many miles without encountering another vehicle. Be aware that the distances can be huge between the main tourist sites and you should not be tempted to visit too many sites in a short period of time as you will spend most of the day driving.

Below you will find just a few of our Featured Self-Drive Trips, please Contact Us for more information.

The best time to travel is during South Africa's winter season from July to November, but don't be put of by this. Winters in South Africa are nothing like the European and North American winters. It is also a lovely quiet time of year and with low season rates great value for money.

At least 37 species of whales and dolphins can be found in the waters off South Africa, including Southern Right and Humpback whales. During the winter period Southern Right whales migrate into the coastal waters of the Western Cape to calve and nurse their young and therefore can often been seen up close along the coast.
